My goal was to investigate how French fashion standards and norms have changed since the early 1900s to present day. This investigation would help to assist my widespread knowledge on the fashion trends and styles during the 15th century to be able to produce the articles of clothing for my catalog. For my final outcome, I intend to create a catalog for a collection of clothes which portray the French fashion standards in the 1900’s. This project challenged me by developing my skills in sewing and embroidery in order to create my articles of clothing. I have decided to take a sewing course for me to have a better understanding on constructing and producing garments along with being able to fabricate a modern take on the styles used in France during the 1900’s. Furthermore, another difficulty I had faced with had included the high demand for specialized garments items as it will be burdensome to produce articles of clothing using garments at a low cost. However, using garments of clothing which is no longer being used at home will allow me to be able to produce garments at a low cost correspondingly to having a more sustainable brand by incorporating reused items into my apparel. The global context for my project was ‘Personal and Cultural Expression.’ I selected this strand of this global context to help drive my project as I had felt that this global context would best relate to my personal project as a result of being able to express individuality throughout my clothing style under the circumstances of fashion trends in France. In this occasion, Personal and Cultural Expression will be used by embracing the different values, traditions, and cultural customs of French fashion by also incorporating my own style into my articles of clothing to express distinctiveness within my work.
