Personal Project Process
In regard to producing my product, I had undergone multiple different methods to attain my ideal outcome that has met most of the developed criteria to a high standard, these methods included researching, investigating, planning, sketching, and constructing. These actions are perceptible within the process of producing my designs, where I have used a sewing machine passed down to me from my mother in order to fabricate my garments for the collection. I believe a sewing machine was the most appropriate tool in producing my designs to exhibit the modern take on French fashion in the 1900’s. The materials used in my collection were either influenced by prior trends in French fashion during my selected time period of the 1900’s or either vintage clothes bequeathed from previous generations. My designs have been measured to fit the model's measurements in order to provide a more suited ensemble.
My collection represents a modern take on French fashion, as France has set the standards for fashion from the textile industry since the seventeenth century. As a result, I had decided to produce a collection of four clothing garments which all correlate with similar ceremonious themes, for instance, my first design was a prolonged skirt with a floral print as these characteristics were highly worn during formal occasions in 19th century France, I chose to construct this skirt out of one of my grandmother's old dresses and proceeded to add a slit in the skirt in order to represent how fashion standards for women have changed, along with women beginning to show more skin without having to be in fear of peoples judgment. I paired the skirt with a pair of sneakers to combine modern trends in fashion with classical styles.
My second design was a previously used corset given by my mother, which was used for formal occasions such as ceremonies, balls, in addition to dinners. I settled upon ameliorating the corset by repairing any previous imperfections and blemishes with subtle uses of black paint to demonstrate the illusion of a pristine corset. I put together the corset with an oversized white t-shirt to exemplify the modern trends of oversized garments of clothing with a traditional article of clothing used in French fashion, these matchings have also evidently depicted the coloration between streetwear and formalwear within my collection. My final outcome has met most of the develop criteria for my project in terms of aesthetics where my products are of high quality in addition to including short and straightforward paragraphs explain each article of clothing in the catalog, and finally the design being proportional towards the average sized target audience in terms of measurements for 30- to 40-year-old adults interested in classical French fashion.
When reappraising my global context, I decided to prosper the changes of classical styles from France to modern day, the incorporation of French fashion is to reinforce the significance of my global context within my work by evaluating personal and cultural expression to highlight the identities and values from different cultural systems which assists the ability to embrace distinct customs to surpass international interconnectedness. Personal and cultural expression indicates my current comprehension of the context because the status quo is capable of encapsulating different cultural customs. The challenges I had faced during the production of my final outcome consisted more of harmonizing classical styles with modern trends in fashion rather than constructing my designs to show the significance of my inquiry question when emphasizing the changes brought about from 19th century France.
