Reflection
Following the conclusion of the production for my final outcome, I believe the time and effort put into the thought process and construction for my designs to be placed into my catalog has been overall successful subsequent to my deliberation with my mentor. Reviewing the aesthetics, content, in addition to functionality listed under my criteria for my project, both me and my mentor believe that the materials used to conduct the prototypes are of high quality and are extremely durable for multiple body types when discussion the aesthetics of my final product. In terms of the target audience, my mentor and I have summarized that the garments are appropriate when illustrating a modern take on French fashion in the 1900’s when combining classical styles and contemporary vogue, this criterion is essential for my target audience in order to tackle thirty- to forty-year- old adults nostalgic of passed memories which evoke emotion through fashion. This project has taught me several new skills, including communication when explaining the garments produced from my collection in my catalog to discuss the visual aspects which correlate to 1900’s French fashion.
Ensuing the evaluation for my product, the collection was deficient in producing four clothing garments, two for males, and two for females. I should have been able to manage my time more wisely when making sure to collect enough materials to produce the number of garments listed under the criteria. I believe that if I had been given the latitude to extend the duration for this project, I would have been able to manage my time in producing the selected amount of clothing garments discussed. Personally, I think that I should have been able to develop my affective skills when brainstorming solutions for any problems that may occur within the entirety of the project in a more efficient manner to satisfy the criteria and ideal outcome.
This project has allowed me to explore the effects of fashion from multiple different aspects concerning
economic, environmental and social factors. Where the results of fast fashion have promoted the increasing the rate of global warming and climate change in society. From my understanding on this situation, I had made sure for my collection to provide an alternative outlook which is further beneficial for the wellbeing of society. The project has since increased my passion for fashion by demonstrating prior knowledge from the industry and applying them towards my projected, my prior learning stems from partaking in Bloomingdale's spring/fashion collection in both 2012 and 2013. This collection has given me an outline when formulating my catalog and the needed descriptions for each article of clothing produced. Expanding my knowledge on fashion was significant within my Everyday life when applying the different economic and social factors to daily activities. For instance, I have made sure to always donate clothes that no longer fit me to charity organization and people in need to not only supply the less fortunate with bare necessities but moreover promote a more sustainable lifestyle.
In regard to developing my understanding of my global context, I believe this project has benefitted my knowledge on personal and cultural expression when identifying the different classical styles represented in France whereas these styles may defer when residing in another country. I had concluded that personal and cultural expression was the most suitable global context as understanding the way in which different cultures demonstrate their tradition is significant when promoting interconnectedness and understanding one another, this context relates to me when communicating by negotiating ideas with fellow peers and teachers or even colleagues I will be working with in the future.
